ELTA Live: “Artificial Intelligence: what can it offer to, and what does it need from, the legal profession.” – Richard Tromans and Francisco Martín

During the first edition of ELTA’s newly launched Virtual Events Series “ELTA LIVE” Richard Tromans (Artificial Lawyer) and Francisco Martín (BigML, Inc.) will discuss the following topic “Artificial Intelligence: what can it offer to, and what does it need from, the legal profession”. The virtual event will be hosted and moderated by ELTA’s board member María Jesús González-Espejo (Instituto de Innovación Legal and Emprendelaw).

Richard Tromans is the founder of TromansConsulting, which advises lawyers on strategy and innovation, including the adoption of legal AI and other ’New Wave’ technology. He has spent over 18 years working in the legal sector focused on the UK and global legal markets.  Richard also is the founder of the global legal AI and new technology site, Artificial Lawyer, which was recently recognized as one of the top 50 information sites in the world on Artificial Intelligence.

Francisco is a co-founder and CEO at BigML, Inc, where he helps conceptualize, design, architect, and implement BigML’s distributed Machine Learning platform since 2011.

Formerly, Francisco founded and led Strands, Inc, a company that pioneered Behavior-based Recommender Systems.  Previously, he founded and led Intelligent Software Components, SA (iSOCO), the first spin-off of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC).  He holds a 5-year degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Valencia, a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the Technical University of Catalonia, and a post-doc in Machine Learning at Oregon State University.  He is the holder of 20+ patents in the areas of Recommender Systems and Distributed Machine Learning.



María is a founding partner at the Instituto de Innovación Legal, and the managing partner of Emprendelaw, consulting firm advising professional services companies – law firms and consultants- on strategy, marketing, communications, people and knowledge management.

She is the author of several books on management of law firms, a frequent contributor for professional media, a teacher at several universities and a lecturer for many conferences and workshops. She has been a lawyer during the first half of her career, specializing in IP, Data Protection and Contracts, working with law firms Clifford Chance, Gómez-Acebo&Pombo, and as a corporate counsel at Orbis-Fabbri and Consodata. She studied law at University Complutense of Madrid and Amsterdam University. She is DEA in Public Law by UNED. She is founding member of Madrid #LegalHackers, President of the Latin American Legal Professionals Women Association (AMJI) and board member at ELTA.
